Garbh Sanskar

What is Garbh Sanskar?

Garbh Sanskar is a Sanskrit term where ‘Garbh’ means womb and ‘Sanskar’ means imprints. The education or enlightenment imparted to a baby inside the womb of the mother is Garbh Sanskar.

Sanskar also means ‘purification & transformation’, instilling the seeds of higher thought and virtues at the right time. Passing on higher values to the next generation has long been a part of the Indian tradition.

Garbh Sanskar comes from 5000-year-old science of Ayurveda, wherein there are guidelines given to give birth to the best kind of progeny. A foetus is actively absorbing the world outside through its mother’s eyes, ears, nose, taste, touch, thoughts, emotions etc and forming ‘sanskars’ or imprints even before its born.

Ayurveda provides month wise guidelines for the expectant mother on not only her diet and lifestyle, but also the kind of music, literature and activities she should be doing during each month. Every minute of these 9 months is crucial and must be

Importance of Garbh Sanskar:

  • A mother’s womb is the child’s first university. It will deeply assimilate everything it experiences in the womb. A significant part of the brain develops in these 9 months. Expectant mother’s diet, lifestyle, stress, thoughts, mental health etc, all influence these rapidly growing neurons. Hence it is important that she is healthy, happy and aware of the impact of her actions on her unborn child.

  • With more & more people moving out to study and work, social & familial structures are changing. Previously, the ancient wisdom of Garbh Sanskar would be passed onto the mothers via the elders of the family. But most couples nowadays do not have access to this knowledge or the resources to learn about it.

  • It helps prevent the passing down of bad genes, diseases and various mental health disorders in children. A child conceived through Garbh Sanskar can be better at academics & co-curriculars, may reach milestones slightly faster, has a better grasping ability, enhanced critical & analytical skills, more empathy, higher emotional intelligence, more patience etc.

A new baby is like the beginning of all things— wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.
